How to create custom widgets in WordPress

One of neatest features in WordPress is something called widgets. Widgets are basically containers that hold information, or provide certain types functionality, that can be easily added into your site with very little effort. Hello world!

Welcome to Genuine WP, a one-man WordPress product shop by me, John Parris. Genuine WP (GWP) was founded on the idea that I wanted a place to offer simple, genuine, well-built products to the world. The best tools are the ones that are crafted specifically to do one thing well. That’s what you’ll find here at GWP.

I’m launching GWP with a neat little tool called Simple Widget Builder, a simple to use plugin for creating custom widget content using the WordPress post editor you’re already familiar with. You create custom widget content just like you would create a new blog post. When you’re done, add the included widget to one of your widget areas, select the custom widget you just made, and you’re ready to go. Check it out and see what you think. Send me an email if you have any questions.

I have a couple other plugins already in the works. One of those is Megaphone, a premium WordPress plugin for Mailgun that lets you do a lot of neat things right from your WordPress dashboard. The other is Simple Content Series, an easy-to-use plugin for curating series of posts.

To stay in the loop about what’s going on here at GWP, sign up for the newsletter at the bottom of the site. It’s powered by Megaphone, by the way. Thanks for stopping by!
